Abstract
Antepartum fetal heart rate testings, specially the nonstress test (NST) and vibrocoustic stimulation test (VAST), are of accepted value in antenatal surveillance of high risk pregnancy. For practical purpose, vabroacoustic stimulation test was
compared
to the traditional nonstress test in regard to pregnancy outcome.
From March to June 1993, 91 nonstress test and 84 vibroacoustic stimulation test were performed on 175 women admitted into Soonchunhyang university hospital. The acoustic stimulation test is a safe, efficacious and rapid test in early prediction
of
fetal compromise and reducing the perinatal morbidity and mortality that appears to perform comparably to the nonstress test.
@ES The results of this study were as follows.
@EN 1. The common indication for NST and VAST were routine (56.0%, 54.8%), Post due (17.5%, 10.9%), Pregnancy induced hypertension (10.9%, 11.9%) & Oligohydramnios (10.9%, 11.9%).
2. Required testing time in NST & VAST were 14.4 minute & 6.4 minute. VAST was approximatoly about 8 minutes less than in either NST.
3. Of the 91 nonstress test, 74 (81.3%) were reactive and 15 (16.5%) were nonreactive. 76 (90.5%) of the 84 vibroacoustic stimulation tests were reactive, whereas 7 (8.3%) were nonreactive.
4. The difference between NST &VAST in meconium staining of the amniotic fluid was not significant.
5. The difference between NST & VAST in fetal distress was no significant.
6. Incidence of Apgar scores of 0 to 6 at 1 minutes of reactive NST was 12.2% and that of nonreactive NST was 40.0%. Incidence of Apgar scores of 0 to 6 at 1 minutes of reactive VAST was 6.6% and that of nonreactive VAST was 71.4%. Incidence of
Apgar
scores of 0 to 6 at 5 minutes of reactive NST was 9.5% and that of nonreactive NST was 33.3%. Incidence of Apgar scores of 0 to 6 at 1 minutes of reactive VAST was 3.9% and that of nonreactive VAST was 71.4.
7. In NST specificity and false positive rate were 33.3% & 66.7%.
In VAST specificity and false positive rate were 71.4% & 21.6%.
The difference between NST & VAST in specificity and false positive rate were significant.
8. The overall Cesarean section rate in NST & VAST were 31.9% & 21.4%.
